Monday 1st March 2010 is National Offer Day, when anxious parents and carers across the country are told what secondary school place their child has been offered. To support and guide those who are disappointed with their offer, the Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) has issued its five-point CHILD action plan.
Keep Calm - it may feel like the end of the road but there are things you can do
Seek Help - contact ACE or the choice adviser at your local authority
Join waiting lists - Immediately a child can move up and down the list, but any openings will be filled as soon as the place becomes available
Lodge an appeal - every parent has the right to appeal
Consider Different schools - visit all possible alternatives
Parents can request a free Appeal Pack by calling 020 7704 3390 and leaving their name and address and our expert advisers are available on our freephone helpline (0808 800 5793) to advise on individual cases in greater depth.
