Appealing for a School

It can be very upsetting for you and your child if they do not get offered a place at one of your preferred schools. Parents have the right to make an appeal to an independent appeal panel if they are refused a place at a school. This booklet helps parents and carers to understand the appeals process so they know what to expect and how to prepare for the appeal. It also offers some guidance on how to put together a case together to present to the appeal panel, with tips on how to make the case as strong as possible.

Published: March 2017  *DfE guidance was updated in 2022 but the advice in the booklet is still correct in terms of your right to appeal, putting an appeal case together and how the appeal panel reach a decision.
