Materials for refugee advisers
ACE has produced a new comprehensive package of materials for anyone working with refugees.
The materials cover critical areas such as an explanation of the education system for refugees, what are LA duties in relation to refugee children, how to get appropriate support and what are parental rights and involvement in their child’s education. There is also a list of useful organisations and publications.
Perhaps of most value are the meticulous legal references, which advisers can use to support efforts to gain entitlements and improve practice for refugee children. ACE is aware that there is currently a great lack of up to date, practical materials that are specific to the education of refugee children.
The package will become part of ACE’s Education Step-by-Step manuals that many LA professionals are using in order to keep up to date with the key areas of education. Sections include, choosing and appealing for school places, SEN, exclusion and bullying. There is also background information on the education system, a miscellaneous section and one on what to do when things go wrong
The refugee package is now available to purchase for £12, including p/p. If interested please email ann.tinklepaugh@ace-ed.org.uk
The written materials and conference were made possible through support from the City Parochial Foundation.
